Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital’s Diagnostic Radiology Department provides both inpatient and outpatient services for patients in need of diagnostic imaging services. With a host of high-tech diagnostic imaging tools available, patients get precise, high-quality care in every stage of evaluation, diagnosis and treatment.

CT

A state-of-the-art computed tomography (CT) scanner and a spiral CT scanner – which is up to 10 times faster than conventional CT – allow the hospital’s skilled radiologists to obtain in-depth information on internal organs and body tissue. This makes computerized tomography a useful method of evaluating a variety of medical conditions, such as cancers, trauma or musculoskeletal disorders.

Ultrasound

The Diagnostic Radiology Department also offers ultrasound, as well as traditional sonography, for cardiac and vascular evaluations. The real-time images that the ultrasound produces make it possible to observe blood flow to other parts of the body. Using ultrasound, radiologists can identify blood clots and atherosclerosis, as well as detect warning signs of a stroke. It also is used to monitor the success of bypass procedures.

Nuclear medicine

Nuclear medicine is useful in detecting and diagnosing a variety of tumors, infections and disorders throughout the body. Using a radioactive substance that is injected into the patient’s body, images of organ and tissue functioning are produced for a doctor’s evaluation.
