Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital has earned the American Heart association and American Stroke Association’s “Get with the Guidelines” Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Award, which means that the Hospital has consistently met the highest standards for the diagnosis and treatment of Stroke patients.
Patients with suspected strokes are evaluated within minutes by a Stroke Team that is available 24/7, and decisions to administer thrombolytic therapy (“clot-busters”) are routinely made more rapidly than New York State Department of Health standards require.
Patients with a cerebral thrombosis (clots in a blood vessel in the brain) who might benefit from a clot-retrieval procedure are referred rapidly to the New York Presbyterian-Cornell Medical Center where staff are available 24/7.
The Emergency Department is headed by Dr. Annada Das, who is board-certified in Emergency Medicine, with more than 30 years of ED experience, and has an all-attending staff with extensive ER experience.
The Division of Neurology is also equipped and staffed to provide 24-hour Epilepsy monitoring and evaluation.
