Our Clinical Laboratory department and our Anatomical Pathology department is an integral part of the patient care provided by Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital. The Laboratory provides state of the art testing services for in-patients. In Anatomical Pathology, diagnoses rendered by the pathologist are based on a thorough examination of tissue and cells in body fluid sent for analysis. In the Clinical Laboratory, test results on blood, tissues and other bodily fluids are used for general health care treatment, primary diagnosis and management of disease.
The Laboratory is fully accredited by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Hospitals. The Laboratory has a record of high quality performance and is dedicated to provide accurate, timely, and cost effective service to our clinicians, their patients and the community at large. The department is staffed with board certified pathologists and licensed technologists.

Clinical Laboratory

Our Laboratory operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provides excellent turnaround times while performing more than 1.3 million tests annually and offering a full range of diagnostic services in laboratory medicine. The Clinical laboratory includes chemistry, hematology and coagulation, microbiology, immunology and transfusion medicine. Our accomplished phlebotomy team is another division within our Laboratory that helps foster a safe environment in patient care. Decentralized (point of care) testing has also been established hospital-wide for bedside glucose monitoring.

Anatomical Pathology

In Anatomical Pathology, 3,500 surgical specimens and 300 cytological specimens are processed and examined annually. Programs are in place for the continuing education for resident doctors and technologists. Our department of Anatomical Pathology is also accredited by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and The Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Hospitals. Standards of practice are determined by regulations from these governing agencies as well as the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and The American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
